The past 18 years of my life have consisted of an innate fear of Excel and its outward intimidation. Being able to actually work with Excel and learn how the program functions, I can now see that is user friendly and easy to trouble shoot issues that you have while using the program. In the future, I will undoubtedly use the program to keep track of my students’ grades and track the class averages. This will help me in identifying what topics I might not have taught in an adequate manner as so to get across to the students. I will also use surveys to get my class’ opinion about parties, my instruction, and various other events in our classroom so I can get a better idea of what I need to change for the next year. Some of the topics that I found interesting on my fellow classmate’s blogs is how they wish to use Twitter in the future. So, in the traditional classroom setting, the teacher will relay the information to the students and then they do their assigned homework outside of the classroom. The “flipped classroom” literally takes this structure and turns it on its head. In this classroom setting, the teacher will have recorded their lectures ahead of time and have it posted as an online source and the students will listen to these and record their own notes at home. Students then complete assignments while in the classroom and ask the teacher questions on the topics there as well. OER is short for Open Educational Resources. These resources are journals or text books that universities have made available online for anyone to use. For example, FSU’s Intro to Educational Technology course decided to stop using a textbook and made all their sources available through canvas at no cost to the students. In the past two weeks, we have learned in class on how assign a saved bookmark in Diigo a topic. These topics help categorize your bookmarks to make your work more organized. This is helpful for the classroom so that students can go out and find resources on their own, bring them back, and we can discuss in class. In a professional setting, it is a great way for the group to get resources together. Again, the individuals can go out and gain resources on their own, but if they have different projects that they are working on, a specific topic label can help make sure that their work gets recognized by the right group. PowerPoint can easily be applied to Bloom’s Taxonomy to a Punctuation lesson, for example. You can teach the content to the class so they gain knowledge on the topic and Remember the information.
