Blog Setup

Hi all! My name is Alexandra Baldwin, but everyone calls me Ally. I am on my way to becoming a fourth generation teacher. I hope to one day find employment at a private elementary school close to home and find a great community to begin my teaching career with.

Prior to this class, I have assisted my mother in her classrooms by helping children set up software like Star Fall and MobyMax. I have grown up using a large variety of different educational technologies for my own educational advancement. The most common online programs I have used are Canvas, Quia, and Membean. I also have experience in the Adobe suit designing our school's yearbook.

I hope gain an understanding of how different applications of windows systems work and how to incorporate them into a classroom setting that appeals to all learning styles. I want to learn this because I feel all children, no matter how they learn, should feel like they can understand the material being presented in the classroom. I do understand this is a difficult task and that there will be roadblocks in the way.  I am determined to work hard and achieve my goal by the end of the semester.

    Nice to meet you Ally and I am sure that you are familiar with teacher's life and career because of your family. However, career development of a teacher is all about you standing in front of the classroom and start to teach. I hope you can use this class as an opportunity to think about how to use techs in your class and maybe interview your family members about their thoughts in your independent learning project.

So, in the traditional classroom setting, the teacher will relay the information to the students and then they do their assigned homework outside of the classroom. The “flipped classroom” literally takes this structure and turns it on its head. In this classroom setting, the teacher will have recorded their lectures ahead of time and have it posted as an online source and the students will listen to these and record their own notes at home. Students then complete assignments while in the classroom and ask the teacher questions on the topics there as well. OER is short for Open Educational Resources. These resources are journals or text books that universities have made available online for anyone to use. For example, FSU’s Intro to Educational Technology course decided to stop using a textbook and made all their sources available through canvas at no cost to the students. Blog Journal 10

The past 18 years of my life have consisted of an innate fear of Excel and its outward intimidation. Being able to actually work with Excel and learn how the program functions, I can now see that is user friendly and easy to trouble shoot issues that you have while using the program. In the future, I will undoubtedly use the program to keep track of my students’ grades and track the class averages. This will help me in identifying what topics I might not have taught in an adequate manner as so to get across to the students. I will also use surveys to get my class’ opinion about parties, my instruction, and various other events in our classroom so I can get a better idea of what I need to change for the next year.
